Keiner Plaza Fountains

Location: Downtown St. Louis, MO

With the 50-year anniversary of the St. Louis Arch, Kiener Plaza was also renovated by MVVA at the same time.  This 1.9-acre park was originally dedicated in 1962.  Named in honor of Harry J. Kiener who was born in St. Louis on February 27, 1881. He is most noted for his position on the U.S. track team at the Olympics held in St. Louis in 1904 during the World’s Fair. The park features a playground, fountains and concert area and has a number of paths and a lawn that can accommodate a variety of events. “The Olympic Runner” statue honors the former Olympian; it is the work of Lithuanian-born immigrant William Zorach.  The Runner is in the center of the park and is highlighted by several cascading foam jets.  Each nozzle has integrated LED color changing lights to make this a focal point for evening events.  Also, within Keiner Plaza is an interactive splash pad with LED color changing lights.  The modern style fountain nozzles are extremely tight to each other below a stainless-steel ADA rated grate.
